Aspiring Nana

Intro

I first learned to knit & crochet when I received the news that I would soon be a grandmother (Nana). A joyous day without a doubt. As a new crafter, my compulsion to buy one skein of every color was neither wise nor frugal. Some of those skeins make up this precious blanket.

I do hope you can use some of those stray skeins with this pattern and have a piece you can be proud of.

I came across this wonderful mother/daughter site on YouTube, Tejiendo Perú. I can’t understand a word, but I knew I loved their work after watching the 1st video. This blanket is based on her swatch tutorial, “Punto lego tejido a crochet”.

I'd love to see your version of the Aspiring Nana blanket. If you have a Ravelry account, please add your project or contact me through the contact form below and I'll reach out for photos to post here on the blog.

Patterns Notes

  • The video demonstrates working only on the “right” side of the fabric by cutting the yarn at the end of each row and joining the new color at the beginning of the row, this pattern works in continuous rows, turning at the end of each row. Do not cut the yarn at the end of rows.
  • Carrying the yarn up the sides of the blanket. Don’t pull yarn too tight when carrying up the sides. These will be concealed with the border.
  • Change yarn at the end of each row by finishing the last stitch with the next color in sequence.
  • Stitch count is multiples of 6 plus 5.

Repeat rows 4 & 5, alternating colors in order until blanket is your desired length. Fasten off & weave in ends.

Finish with the border of your choice, encompassing the strands left when carrying the yarn up the sides of the blanket. A simple hdc border looks nice without detracting from the pattern.
