Tunisian Reverse Stitch

The Tunisian Reverse Stitch (TRS) is visually similar to Tunisian Purl Stitch (TPS), though it creates a more substantial texture by sitting higher on the fabric. Using the TRS can give your project definition whether as a border or with color changes to create contrast. TRS combats curling when incorporated with many of the heavy curling stitches.

A video tutorial for TRS is available from CrochetKim & Mode Bespoke .

TRS is made in reverse of TSS, by inserting the hook through the back vertical bar with the yarn in back.

Begin this & nearly all Tunisian projects with a Foundation Row:

Chain any quantity, beginning in the 2nd chain from the hook, pull up a loop in each chain. Basic return pass. See the tutorial for TSS for more detailed instruction on the Foundation Row & Return Pass.

Forward Pass - Skip the first vertical bar directly beneath the loop on the hook, insert your hook, from right to left, through the next back vertical bar, draw up a loop. Continue pulling up loops in this fashion until you reach the last stitch, TSS in the last stitch.

Basic Return PassSee the tutorial for TSS for more detailed instruction on the return pass

Continue making Forward & Return passes to your desired length.

Bind off row.

Binding off starts just as you would any other row. Insert your hook as you would for TRS.

Yarn over and pull up a loop. Continue pulling through the loop on the hook. You're only doing a slip stitch, just like any other slip stitch in regular crochet. Repeat across the row to the last stitch.

Last stitch - insert your hook under both vertical bars of the last stitch (it should look like a v on the outer edge of the work) and finish the slip stitch. Chain 1, cut the yarn and pull through the loop to fasten off.

Have a Happy Day!
